Only two hours before my interview for the job in Rockland, Middletown called me and told me that I was actually ACCEPTED for the long-term maternity leave substitution position! But I have an interview in Rockland in two hours! And Middletown needed a decision 24-hours hence!

Indeed they must.

So I played the waiting game. I did my interview in Rockland, it went relatively well, but they told me later that afternoon they were looking for more experience, and that I should accept the job with Middletown. So I did!

The board of ed approves me on Thursday, Feb 19th, and thus I begin work Feb 20th! I will be teaching 6th Grade General Music, 7th/8th Grade Chorus, and a Guitar class from February 20th until Memorial Day. Whee experience!

Because it is only a three month position, because I want to save money, and because I don't want to have to get a truck two more times, I am going to be commuting to Middletown daily. It takes about an hour to get there by car, and I will be leaving my house around 6:15am every morning. Though that won't be fun, I'll be getting home around 3:30ish, so that ain't too bad! It's about 50 miles one way, so 100 miles a day. I figured out if the costs of gas remain stable, it will cost approximately $6 a day in gas plus $1 toll. I am going against the flow of traffic (traffic is heavy eastbound in the morning, westbound in the evening, I will be doing the opposite). So $7 a day 5 days a week is $35 a week, multiply by 4 is $140 a month. Much less than renting a place for $800 a month huh! Plus, there is something nice about having a long drive like that. If you are having a rough morning or had a hard day, you have time to kind of open your mind, listen to some music, and forget about it! The only thing I'm sad about is its impact on the environment, but luckily I drive a fuel efficient car (37 MPG woo!) and it's a short position.

After my maternity leave position, I am basically leaving my late May and June up in the air in case the teacher I replace decides not to come back before summer. But if she does come back, which most likely will be the case, I will wait for the RJP to come home, then probably do some sort of trip with her. If the teacher does not return, it'll be straight into NPDC for me!

As for next year, there were some mixups with transcripts and stuff with OSU and Potsdam. Actually the only school not to mess up was Bing! Anyways, I will keep you posted on that when the time arises.

Love you all!

Haha thanks! It's hard to get a music education job ANYWHERE. Even though this is not a full position forever this is gonna be really good experience for when a real full time position opens up. WOOHOO! Middle school is tough, but luckily there are some tricks that I know and that the teacher I'm replacing has been instituting throughout the year. But definitely rewarding. Should be good!
